Sunday Worship
I started this in the pandemic when life felt grim. I continue because the world feels very grim indeed. My weekly practice reminds me to be thankful for three things and encourage you to share yours.
Another week of brutality.
Every single person killed, imprisoned, terrorised, maimed or tortured is somebody’s loved one. Someone nurtured them, fed them, stroked their hair, taught them to read and to tie their shoe laces. Looked at them with love and hope.
How casually we treat the losses of people who have been dehumanised for decades.
I try to find three things that I am thankful for at the end of every week:
1. People who speak up and take action – their stubborn hope and refusal to be numbed to other people’s suffering, inspire me. I’m in awe of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, a solidarity grassroots organisation of 3000 people from 36 different nations on three ships carrying 5500 tonnes of aid, 8 ambulances and a fire engine. They are working together to end the illegal Israeli blockade of Gaza. Please support them and share their posts, they need our eyes on them to keep them safe. Salute to all Jews around the world who are protesting against genocide. Here’s to humanity!
2. Stroking a snoozing dog on my lap in the sunshine. From 1pm onwards the sun travels to the back of my garden where my studio is. I have a few chairs outside, it’s a good time for a break and a check in with three furry friends.
3. The Mister has started painting again. He aims for an exhibition every other year but what with COVID and almost three years of getting our old and unloved house by the sea, to a more habitable state…he hasn’t had the time. We both have a studio each and wander off to fully absorb ourselves in our projects and meet back around the table later in the day for tea and a chat. Having our own time to get lost in thoughts, and separate duvets, keeps us harmonious.
What three things are you thankful for at the end of this week? Please drop them below. They always make me smile.
The Soothe London Day Retreats
How do you regulate your nervous system? Movement, conscious breathing, recovery with rest, community and nourishing food.
We have all of that covered in The Soothe Day Retreats in a new space in Mayfair in London - join me every other month to recalibrate, repair and restore.
I work one-to-one in my online clinic with clients to help them to recover from chronic states: stress, anxiety, burnout and deeply held trauma issues.
But I also love gathering people in community in person. The next Soothe Day Retreat is on the 18th May 10 am – 5pm in a new location, the nearest tube is Bond Street.
What will you learn? The Human Method is a powerful practice of brain-body re-education, breathwork, anatomy in movement, somatic yoga flow, and deep rest. You will enjoy carefully designed practices to help you let go of unhelpful patterns in the body and mind and lay down new possibilities for movement, and for your life.
What the day includes:
• A morning and afternoon workshops, with five hours of expert teaching. A morning workshop to energise
• Gourmet vegetarian lunch, to stimulate your tastebuds and deeply nourish and afternoon tea and cake.
The workshops will teach you the principles of nervous system regulation but will also teach you fresh content every workshop to respond to what is happening in our wider environment – this will influence your nervous system – and also by the latest research.
