I’m Nahid, an Author and somatic Movement Educator, known as the “nervous system whisperer.” I run an online clinic where I help clients with chronic stress, anxiety, burnout, and trauma issues with The Soothe Programme, a 12 week course of tailored private sessions to rewire your brain through movement. I also run workshops and retreats – the next London day retreat is on March 23rd.

Forget forcing tight muscles into uncomfortable stretches.
Imagine instead, rewiring your brain to release them. I who see the root of tension not in inflexible muscles, but in rigid neural pathways.
Think of it like this: every time you sit hunched over, you're training your body to become increasingly good at hunching. This rigid pattern not only restricts your mobility but also amplifies stress within your system. You might stretch religiously, only to find yourself back in the same tense state moments later. Frustrating, right?
Instead of fighting against your body, I propose that you collaborate with your brain. Here's the science behind it: your brain, through a process called neuroplasticity, can form new neural pathways based on your experiences. By introducing novel, exploratory movements, you literally create new options for your nervous system, breaking free from the cycle of tension.
I had a client, let’s call him John, a trader burdened by years of screen time and persistent neck pain. Traditional solutions offered only temporary relief, as his body kept returning to its habitual stress pattern. I guided him to explore unfamiliar movements, allowing his brain to rewire its understanding of optimal organisation. The pain gradually subsided, replaced by a newfound sense of dynamic ease.
This isn't about "fixing" stress, it's about cultivating a resilient nervous system. Here are a few practices that engage both body and mind:
Rolling, rocking, and exploring movement – stepping outside your comfort zone to create new neural pathways.
Walking – engaging the complex movement patterns our brains evolved for, fostering deeper connection and awareness.
Controlled lengthening and strengthening with reformer Pilates – exploring a full range of movements to break free from habitual patterns.
Gyrokinesis – spiralling movements that challenge stability and stimulate the brain.
Kettlebells, power plates, resistance bands – using various tools to introduce novel demands and awaken both body and mind.
You are a bio-intelligent system, capable of beautiful and dynamic adaptation. This approach empowers you to get out of your own way, allowing your body to rediscover its innate potential for ease and well-being. So, are you ready to rewire your body and release your tension? Take a deep breath, explore a new movement, and watch your inner landscape transform.
Remember, your body is listening. What story are you telling today?
This week’s lesson for paid subscribers is on finding release without stretching.
