Amidst the current global turmoil, the people seeking my work are grappling with an unprecedented level of distress. They are often acutely attuned to the world's pain, and have exhausted numerous therapies before approaching me. By the time they reach my doorstep, they are immersed in a profound state of anguish.
This shared experience transcends geographical boundaries. Clients from all corners of the globe are seeing the same things and feeling the same things.
I’m sensing a collective anguish. Here are the rules I set in place:
Ground Yourself: Connect with the earth by getting close to the ground. Lie on the ground, take your shoes off and earth yourself, put your back against a wall. Earth yourself.
Socialise: Engage in face-to-face interactions with people who share your values.
Transform Emotion into Action: turn self-care into collective care, channel your anguish into meaningful contribution.
Breathe lower: Engage in breathing to draw air into the lower portions of your lungs.
Nourish Your Body: Prioritise foods that fuel your well-being. Keep it simple.
Abstain from Alcohol: Recognise alcohol as a depressant that impairs your emotional resilience.
Establish a Consistent Sleep Schedule: Aim for a bedtime of 10 PM to ensure adequate rest and rejuvenation.
In addition to these general recommendations, I employ a grounding practice to cultivate a sense of stability in the turbulence of grief.
Try this grounding practice
Stand facing a big window or be outside on a warm day, with your feet sit bone distance apart. let your eyes close.
Tune into the sensation of standing into the bones of your feet.
Visualise roots extending from your feet, anchoring you firmly to the earth. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, radiating comfort and strength.
Imagine the roots from the earth being pulled up into your legs, belly, chest, heart and up to the top of your head on each inhale through your nostrils.
On every exhale, through your nostrils, draw the breath down from the top of your head back into the earth. Do this a few times. Make your breath as smooth as you can.
For paid subscribers, I have dropped a lesson called “ Earth your Grief” it’s been my go-to lesson this week.
Stay human,
